Reef Mining
The photos on this page show examples of reef mining in the Wedderburn area. These are quartz reefs which were considered possibly gold bearing.
The first image gives an overview of the area, you can see how rocky it is. The second is a closer shot of an old diggers hole to extract the rock. Just look at the size of the rocks and remember that this was all done with pick and shovel. The rock would then have to be removed by hand and taken to the nearest gold battery for crushing to extract the gold - if any!!!!
